When I was younger, I used to say winter was my favorite season. As an adult, I’ll admit I do not feel quite the same!
But as I consider this time of year more closely, I will say there is something to be said for the quiet of winter: For slowing down, cozying up with a good book, and napping perhaps a little more than usual.
As a nature photographer, though, I can’t spend all of my winter days inside. This year especially, I have been challenging myself to push off those cozy covers a little more often and to step out into the brisk air. And I have to say, I have been rewarded for my efforts.
In winter, some days are gray, others are blue, and a few are almost blinding both in light and beauty.
This collection represents several wintertime wanderings since the start of 2025. I hope they remind you of some of of the beauty of both the wildlife and the various features of the landscape this time of year.
Sometimes it may not feel like it, but spring will be coming soon. So if the mercury rises to a manageable level, or perhaps the sun is shining just enough to make you feel a little motivated to move, I encourage you to get out before the quiet beauty of winter fades into our memories for another year.

What have been your favorite scenes and moments this winter? I would love to hear from you!
Sincerely, Amanda
Beautiful Amanda! I envy your snow. All we've had here in central NJ are several episodes of an inch of two of snow, changing to sleet, then to rain and gone all in 24 hours.
These are so lovely, they perfectly encapsulate the peace and stillness of winter. Thank you for sharing, Amanda!
